2024 PBA Hispanic Heritage Festival

The Palm Beach Atlantic University College of the Arts is pleased to announce the 15th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival to be held on October 10-13, 2024, in the Vera Lea Rinker Music and Fine Arts Building on our campus in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Festival celebrates the panoply of Hispanic artistic culture with music concerts, presentations of visual art, film, and the theater arts. An important part of the festival is the academic conference that includes papers, lecture-recitals, and performances, all relating to the subject of the arts of Hispanic world.
As we open the Festival conference to more of the artistic expressions of Hispanic culture, we welcome proposals involving all facets of the music, visual arts, and theater of Spain, Portugal, Latin America, and the diaspora. The submission deadline is August 1, 2024.

Call for Proposals

Palm Beach Atlantic University Hispanic Heritage Festival invites proposals for presentations, scholarship, and lecture recitals in the areas of Hispanic music, art, and theater from any time period. The University does not fund travel expenses of accepted presenters. All presenters are required to register at the full conference rate. Accompanying performers may register at a reduced rate and may purchase event tickets separately.

A. Individual Papers
We invite paper proposals on a variety of subjects relating to Hispanic and Portuguese art, music, and theater of the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas. Subjects may be historically focused or on current topics. Presentations must be limited to 20 minutes, allowing for a 5-minute discussion period. Proposals must be submitted as an abstract of no more than 300 words.

B. Other Presentation Types
Proposals for music lecture-recitals or discussions of one’s artwork or short theater presentations are welcome. These presentations may be no longer than thirty minutes followed by 5 minutes of discussion time and should offer appropriate balance of lecture and performance elements in the music and theater areas. Various constraints limit the number of these types of presentations that may be programmed each year. Applicants should specify the length of their performance or discussion in their abstracts. Applicants must also include in the body of their proposal a link to an online audio or video file that is representative of the proposed content, as well as a list of any special requirements (e.g., piano, music stand, space for theater demonstration, choral risers, percussion equipment, or other items). All music and theater performers must be provided by the presenter.

C. Performances
We invite proposals for short performances of Spanish, Portuguese or Latin American music or portions of theatrical works. Selections must total a maximum of 25 minutes.
